There has never been more news. So why does it feel like there are fewer people being paid to actually go out and find it? 🤔

Across the industry, the maths is getting harder to ignore. Newsrooms are shrinking. Editorial budgets are tightening. Experienced journalists are leaving. Freelancers are absorbing more of the financial risk involved in developing stories, while editors themselves are often working with fewer resources and an overwhelming number of pitches competing for limited commissioning budgets.

At the same time, we're entering an era where AI can generate an almost infinite amount of content at virtually no cost.

That combination should worry us. Not because AI is inherently the enemy of journalism. It isn't. Used well, it can be an incredibly useful tool. But journalism cannot become a race to produce the greatest possible volume of information for the lowest possible price.

The thing is,s somebody still has to leave the desk. Somebody has to find the story that isn't already online. Somebody has to earn a source's trust, knock on doors, travel to communities rarely covered by international media, question official narratives, verify what happened and occasionally spend weeks investigating something only to discover that the original hypothesis was completely wrong.

That work is slow. It's unpredictable. And it costs money. THIS is the part of the journalism ecosystem UNTOLD News Network wants to invest in.

We're building a platform that puts independent journalists and original reporting at its centre. That means paying freelancers for their work, supporting reporting that might struggle to find space within increasingly constrained commissioning budgets, and helping emerging journalists develop the skills and connections they need to build sustainable careers.

We're starting small. But the ambition is much bigger.

We want to help prove that even in an industry facing extraordinary financial and technological upheaval, there is still a viable future for journalism built around people going out into the world and finding stories worth telling.

And we need people who believe in that future to help us build it.

Share the campaign if you can't. Introduce us to journalists, editors, organisations and potential partners who should know UNTOLD exists.

Because producing information has never been easier. Reporting it is still hard.

And that is exactly why it's worth funding.
